I found this report written by Brenda Verity during a deep search on the internet. This is a must-read for
anyone wanting to know more about the experiences of the police and hospital staff on the day of the fire, as well as the lessons that were learned. I found the following excerpt extremely powerful:
“One ambulance carrying ten burned policemen was flagged down by an extremely distressed motorist who handed a child suffering from burns out of the car window into the ambulance. This child was conveyed to hospital with the policemen”.
The report, which you can read by clicking on the link at the bottom of this page, goes on to highlight the challenges faced by Bradford Royal Infirmary and how on the day the Unit and Staff were not prepared but together they did a sterling job and worked with other hospitals in the local area to ensure people received medical attention.
